Getting Your Canvas Ready for the Finisher

Many finishers have their own submission form — always use theirs first. If they don't have one, print the sheet for your finish (or bring it to your local shop) so they have everything they need to finish it properly.

A quick checklist

• Check your finisher's requirements first — some ask for extra stitched rows or a binding stitch on the edges (common for belts, straps, and collars).
• Finish all stitching — check for any missed stitches and ensure any additional rows have been added.
• Send a strand or two of each fiber you used along with your canvas — if your finisher spots a missed stitch, they'll have the exact fiber on hand to fix it.
• Don't cut the canvas — leave at least 2–3 inches of blank canvas on every side.
• Secure and trim loose thread tails on the back so nothing shadows through.
• Remove stray fibers and pet hair.
• Note the mesh count and the exact stitched dimensions (width × height).
• Photograph the finished canvas.
• Choose your finish and materials — backing, cord or trim, hardware, colors.
• Fill in the order sheet and tuck it in with your canvas.
• Pack flat or loosely rolled in a waterproof bag; use tracking, and insure valuable pieces.
